Heavy rain on steep ground
Heflin basements face a lot of rain and a lot of hill.
Heflin's own weather station averages about 57 and a half inches of rain a year, close to five feet of water. Nearly all of it lands on slopes: about 84 percent of the ground sampled around town is Tatum and Fruithurst soil mapped as hilly or steep. Fruithurst reaches soft rock 20 to 40 inches down, and Tatum's clay soil sits on rock as shallow as about 30 inches in places. Rain that soaks in cannot go deep, so it moves downhill along the rock. A basement cut into one of those slopes is right in its path.
The hill above
How steep the lot is, where the runoff from above crosses the yard, and where the downspouts send roof water.
Back wall
Damp block on the uphill side, white crust, dripping cracks and water at the joint along the floor.
The floor
Water spreading from the uphill wall after storms, and whether a sump is there to catch it.
What a wet Heflin basement looks like.
Most Heflin basement water is runoff from the slope above the house, and a smaller share comes up from the creek bottoms. These four signs tell us which one you have.
Water across the floor after a storm
A white band on the back wall
A low lot near a creek
Mildew on the lower level

How we diagnose basement water in Heflin.
A lot of waterproofing companies show up to sell you the most expensive system they install. We show up to figure out how water is actually getting into your basement first, then prescribe the system that stops it, and tell you straight, even when the answer is "you don't need as much as you were told."
Diagnose
A free in-home inspection by someone who does this work. We trace where the water is coming from, inside and around the home, and walk you through what's actually driving it.
Prescribe
The right waterproofing system for how water is getting in, not the priciest package. A plain-English explanation and a fair price in writing. You decide on your own time.
Treat
Dependable work by our own local crew, on time, cleaned up after themselves. We keep you in the loop until the basement is dry and we have walked the finished job with you.
A lot of companies sell you a system. We diagnose first, then prescribe only what your basement actually needs to stay dry. That's the difference between an honest local team and a sales quota from out of town.
Basement waterproofing methods for Heflin's hillsides.
A basement dug into a steep slope and one on low creek ground need different plans. We prescribe from the four methods below, and only what your Heflin basement needs.
Interior Drainage
A drain channel along the inside base of the uphill wall catches runoff where it rides the shallow rock into the basement, and carries it to a sump.
Best for: water entering at the base of the uphill wall.
Sump Pump Systems
The pit collects the drain water and the pump sends it out and downhill, away from the house. A battery backup covers the storms that cut the power.
Best for: heavy-storm runoff and low creek-bottom lots.
Wall Vapor Barrier
A sealed liner fastened over damp block keeps wall moisture and musty air out of the room, and sends seepage behind it down into the drain.
Best for: lower-level walls that stay damp.
Grading & Downspout Fixes
On hilly and steep lots, a swale above the house and downspouts piped downhill turn the runoff aside before it reaches the wall. On some Heflin lots, that is most of the fix.
Best for: runoff that crosses the yard toward the house.
What else hillside water can reach.
In Heflin, the soil that soaks a back wall also presses on it, and framing over a damp lower level wears out faster. If the diagnosis finds more than water, one team takes care of it.
